Eco-conscious Luxury

There could never be enough amazing things said about our hotel in Singapore. So, where shall I start?

We were looking for something modern, central and beautifully designed with a touch of luxury so that we could still have a relaxing ‘resort’ experience during our jam-packed trip. The PARKROYAL on Pickering ticked every single box on our list and definitely exceeded our expectations!

The façade of the hotel was so refreshing in this city of high-rise buildings. Sumptuous amounts of green foliage flow over many levels of the hotel with vertical gardens filling outdoor walkways and any bare spaces. This theme continues to the infinity pool and fitness area where the view out over the city from the poolside cabanas is breathtaking making it absolutely perfect for an afternoon break from the heat.

We got a Superior room that was the perfect size for us. The light wood and soft furnishings of the room were very welcoming. As was the lovely bottle of wine that was left in our room as a gift to celebrate our anniversary, such a thoughtful gesture. This seemed to be the running theme of the hotel. The layout of the room and detailed design of the bathroom was incredible. Bottled filtered water was provided twice daily in the room, in keeping with the hotels eco-friendly ideals.

The PARKROYAL has recently been re-designed with a very important concept in mind, sustainability and the carbon footprint of travellers. This was of particular interest to us as J is studying architecture and will work in an industry that must continually apply new techniques and designs to help in the fight against global warming. But what was truly amazing about the PARKROYAL on Pickering is that there was no compromise in style and indulgence to uphold the environmentally friendly ideals. In fact the hotel has won many awards for its luxury and sustainability, each in their own right.

Now on to breakfast, which J and I are not ashamed to say is one of our favourite parts of holidaying. We weren’t disappointed. I could not have been happier to see the fresh watermelon juice and individually bottled smoothies. There was a beautiful selection of pastries, cakes and breads with western and eastern condiments. As with most 5 star hotels there were many stations to get freshly made breakfast delights such as omelettes, kaya toast (a Singaporean favourite of coconut jam on toast served with sweet tea and a boiled egg), fresh noodles and 63 degree eggs served as ham or salmon eggs benedict. It’s easy to see why we usually didn’t eat lunch until 3 in the afternoon.

The kind staff, unique and aesthetically gorgeous design, delicious food and perfect location right near Chinatown made this hotel the perfect refuge to rest our very weary feet each day. We will be back in no time for a little more poolside R&R and we cannot wait!
