L’Escale du Ciel, the Perfect French Getaway

The South of France is one of those places that embodies a culture, style and uniqueness like no other and just begs to be explored! There is a pocket high in the hills above the glistening water (and streets) of the Riviera that was calling our name. We were lucky enough to stay at l’Escale du Ciel as the base for our adventures in the hills. Winding up the narrow drive to the B&B we were met by large wrought iron gates. Not far beyond, were two adorable dogs that were only too happy to have some new humans around to shower them with cuddles.

The B&B’s owner, Judith took us to our room on the top floor of her enchanting home.

There were incredible views over the surrounding valley, linen sheets, a Nespresso machine, wine fridge with a bottle of local rose chilling, white bathrobes and a sitting room filled with quintessentially French provincial furniture and decor to die for. We even had Cookie the dog to keep us company.

We were so at home and could have stayed forever but, the sun was still high in the sky and we were ready for an afternoon by the pool. Sitting above the old stone house was the infinity pool and what a pool it is! Crystal clear water with tiny blue tiles, sunbeds in all the perfect places and grass umbrellas that rustled in the breeze.

The sun began to set and we decided it was time to enjoy the beautiful bottle of rosé Judith had left us in our wine fridge. What an evening in France calls for, right?

In the morning we woke to the sound of birds outside the shutters of our bedroom. I threw them open to find the sun beaming out over the valley and the delicious scent of bacon drifting up from the terrace.

The table was set for us on the corner of the terrace with views of the town and surrounding mountains. Fresh coffee and tea were waiting for us as well as the essential French breakfast basket filled to the brim with baguette, croissant and pain au chocolat. It was just too tempting so, we dug in before Judith had brought over yoghurt with fresh berries and eggs with lardons to complete this incredible spread!

There wasn’t a thing more we could have asked for of our first taste of this beautiful region and our time at l’Escale du Ciel. So, with our tummies full we were excited to hop in our car and explore the delightful towns Judith suggested we visit during our stay (more on those in the next post!).
