At least once every winter since I can remember, I have travelled up to the Blue Mountains for the perfect day trip exploring on a bush walk or two, a spot of shopping in Leura and of course the absolutely necessary visit to the old fashioned lolly shop to survive the drive home.
This year however, it was a little different. J and I decided to stay at the iconic (and recently refurbished) Hydro Majestic Hotel that was built at the turn of the century.
We drove in through the front gates and were taken aback by the grandeur of the many buildings that make up the hotel.
There was a definite nod to the history of the hotel in our room with art deco accents through out.
My Grandparents actually spent their honeymoon at the Hydro and I couldn’t help but think of them sipping cocktails in the Salon du as they looked out over the magical Megalong Valley.
After a little more wandering, we ended up at the tennis courts. Who could create a better backdrop for a quick game? I will be proud to report that we did not lose any balls to the burgeoning valley below.
We warmed up with a coffee in the lobby.
The sunset was remarkable.
The next morning we made our way into Leura and decided to try the Leura Falls walk, which in all these years I had never tried. I was so pleasantly surprised!
Not only was there an option to suit all fitness levels but the scenery was varied and the paths were quiet.
Starving and a little sore, we headed back into town for a quick lunch at the Leura Gourmet and to stock up on essentials from the lolly shop.
